Description

Hollow objects containing pebbles or clay pieces are found in Iron Age sites, mainly in tombs. An instrument that was shaken “Rattle” is mentioned as being played during David’s transport of the Ark to Jerusalem Psalms 150:1-5: “Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals… However, there is always a possibility that rattles were children’s toys, just as they are today.
