Description
A GLASS JUGLET COVERED WITH SILVER PATINA
Roman Period, ca. 3rd-4th century CE.
With cylindrical body and neck and inverted rim.
The glass was a rare commodity in antiquity, used to contain only the most costly and precious of substances. What did this vase hold when Rome was the center of the world, and who might have gripped its sinuous handle to pour out its precious contents? Though the vessel appears empty, we can fill it completely with the heady essence of imagination
Then he said, “Go around and get jars from all your neighbors. Get empty jars, many of them. Then go in and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour the oil into all these jars, and set aside each one that is full.” (2 Kings 4:3-4)
