Description

intact. A rare Roman mold-made double head-shaped bottle of transparent manganese colored, slightly pinkish-purple glass. The vessel has a slightly everted rim that is rolled inward, a tubular neck with a small bulge above the edge of the mold, and a body in the shape of a doubleheader. The base is roughly oval and flat though somewhat irregular, causing the vessel to stand at a slight tilt. The two heads have similar chubby, childlike features, possibly representing Eros or Dionysus, with ample hair that appears curly and is pulled back from the face. The seam for the two-part mold is particularly noticeable down the middle of the hair on one side. There is encrustation in the recessed areas of the exterior, particularly the hair, with small patches of rainbow iridescence, and deposits on the interior
